I am making a scrapbook for someone else. How much should I charge to make it?
January 31st, 2009 | by admin |I will be using her pictures and charging her for supplies, but I'm just not sure how much to charge for actually making it - for the time that it takes. I was thinking like 8-10 dollars an hour or 100 dollars for the album.
I'd think it would depend on the amount of pictures & time you plan on spending on the project. For example, if you're only putting about 20-30 pictures in it, I would say $100 is too much. If you're putting 50-100 pictures in it, I'd say $100 is about right.

is this a friend or just some random person? $100 seems high. i'd add up cost of supplies and add 30% or so.

Try to visualize the time it will take you to finish it, then multiply the hours by the minimum wage. After that, then you can reasonably add whatever extra you understand your work and artistic appreciation is worth, but at least you will be starting from a minimum wage standpoint…

Is it for a friend? Perhaps you should talk about charges before you begin! I think £100 seems very high. I like crafting and realise the supplies are costly - plus you are likely to use some things you already have. If it is for a friend I would want to keep cost down, you are probably doing something you love and using someone elses pictures and materials so it is a win/win situation. If it is not a close friend talk money first - you dont want a situation at the end of it all! I dont think many people who dont craft realise how time consuming it is to get the good results we get!
Good luck with it.

Since you have determined the low and high values, invite the customer for discussion and let her know your charges are as high as $100, but negotiable. Make sure your work is good. Samples of previously executed jobs if done successfully could be used as one of your bargaining chips.

How many pages will be in the book? Another way is to charge by $12-15 per page is good here.

I think you should charge it about $1.00 a picture, if it's a friend, then you should charge it 50 cents a picture.

You need to decide what your time is worth to you to do this and charge accordingly. Otherwise, you'll be stuck doing something that you'll eventually regret. When I had time to do S4O, I charged $20 an hour plus supplies. I tried to offset the service charges by invoicing the supplies as close as possible to cost (I get most everything at wholesale). My clients were aware of this and we're very appreciative. Feel free to ask me for more details. You can reach me directly through my website,

You are on the UK Yahoo so those who think your charge too high are thinking in sterling which is double the value of dollars.
Personally I think your price is to low unless you are doing just a few pages and are following layouts from magazines and books.
If you are filling a standard 20 page scrapbook and taking about an hour a page using your own creativity and are an experienced scrapbooker I think you should charge about $300.
To put it in a commercial perspective I have heard of wedding photographers charging £500 ($1000) dollars to send only 20 photographs to Italy to make up into a scrapbook album.
Your time is valuable even if you are doing something you enjoy don't undervalue yourself. Computer men are charging £70 to £85 an hour for their expert services and while few of us can get away with that you too are an expert.

I would think around £50 in UK so that is around what you are thinking of in Dollars - i think. i agree with others that while tradesman and computer whizzes can charge high amounts it seems that handcrafted items are expected to be cheap?
Charging by the hour could be tricky i think i would agree a fixed price before i start.
Hope this helps.

you need to take into account how much it's costing you,the time it takes, you don't want to charge to little or too much,i would charge between £25-£65 or 50-130 dollars as she will be getting a scrapbook for keeping happy memories in.I think what you are charging is ample, and reasonable.

The way I would suggest doing is to first of all decide how many pages and charge per 2 page spread… The cost should depend on how much you emlbelish the pages… Anywhere from $8.00 per two page spread for something very simple with little emlishment on up……And of course add in the cost of the album… So a very simple book with the albums running in the $25.00 range… and simple pages with very little emlishment the starting cost would be around $95.00 American…. Now obviously if you are embelishing more you would up the price per two page spread based on the materials you are using!
